It had broken, dislocated, and was shaped like a Z. They reset it, splinted it, and he played with it. But it continued to be a nuisance by constantly popping out and fracturing again and again. It was effecting his play. At halftime of a game, he asked the medical staff to amputate it almost to base. It was not a playoff game. And it wasn't a game of any real importance. Quite possibly the best all around defensive back ever. He had the speed to play the corner, which a lot of people don't even know that's where he started. But his field vision, play recognition, and bone jarring hits landed him as a safety. Old school tough guy!!!
